South America and Asia are the primary target for Western investors, whereas their investments towards Europe and US are decreasing. Energy, Mineral, Chemal, Pharma and Finance are the most active sector in M&A transactions. In Italy, only 30% transactions are among domestic operators, whereas 70% are acquisitions from abroad. The climate of uncertainty is still slaking the Italian market: the majority of buyers are coming from abroad, whereas only a few Italians firms are investing abroad. The M&A industry is expected to be even more lively in 2011, spurred on by sectors such as Energy, Finance, Raw Materials, Telecommunications and Healthcare. European investors will increasingly focus on developing countries; on the other hand, more and more capitals from India and China are expected to flow towards Europe and US firms.
